Not a lot of changes one way or the other for Josh today. His swallowing improved and he was able to eat a little bit more food. He walked around and did pretty well, including walking up and down some stairs and around or over objects that hinder his way. He is getting much more steady on his feet. He now sits up on his own in his bed. He even tries to get up from time to time (the nurse said he got out of bed on his own twice last night), but he isn't supposed to get up without assistance just to be safe. He still enjoys tossing a ball, playing Flow, and writing. He answers some but not all of the questions he is asked.  He will speak -- in a hoarse voice -- but only on rare occasion. All in all, he continues to make slow but steady progress.

We spent a major portion of the day today trying to secure approval from the hospital to transport Josh to Denver on Tuesday. The head neurologist was opposed to the idea because Josh still doesn't have his bone flaps attached to his head and so the neurologist was concerned that the change in altitude and pressure from an airplane ride (to Denver -- the Mile High City, no less) could be dangerous. But in talking with other doctors, they all think there is nothing unsafe about the transport since it would be in a pressurized "air ambulance" that is essentially a flying ICU. The frustrating part of the day was that we couldn't speak directly to the neurologist despite numerous efforts to do so. Finally, after all sorts of efforts, we found a different doctor -- Josh's attending in the trauma unit -- who agreed to authorize the transfer. He can't do that until Monday morning, so we are in a bit of a limbo until then.  But we feel confident enough that Paul is leaving for Denver by car tomorrow morning. Mary and Josh will follow by air ambulance on Tuesday, assuming all goes as planned.

Erin passed away today at the tender age of 26, three weeks and two days after her terrible accident. Our hearts are broken for her family and we count our blessings that this didn't happen to Josh, as it certainly could have. We request your ongoing prayers for them as they deal with this tragedy.
