Josh is much more awake today. His left eye is open and he watches everything that is happening around him. He is also very fixated on any object we give him to hold. Right now, it seems that his mission is to disassemble the mitt that he used to have on his hand. He hated that mitt! Now he's wreaking his revenge.
It is disconcerting to have Josh now in a position (awake) where he should be able to communicate and interact, but he can't. He will sometimes answer a simple question with a nod or shake of the head, but he is mostly incommunicative. We have to be grateful for the progress he has made and remember that the recovery process is a marathon, not a sprint.
He is completely off of the ventilator now, although it is still attached. This is great news. Aside from his right eye (and brain, of course), his body is doing well.
