Not a lot of change from yesterday. He is still alert and looking around the room with his one good eye. He seems a bit more subdued, even today. Without his ability to communicate, it's difficult for us to know what's going on in his head. He did play a spontaneous game of throw and catch for about 30 minutes. He seemed to enjoy that.
Josh has pneumonia. They have been treating him for three days on an antibiotic that isn't working, so they changed to a new antibiotic today. It's an 8-day course.
The ophthalmologist came by. Both of his eyeballs look good but there is nerve damage to his right eye, which is why it won't open, move, or focus. We'll have to wait to see if this changes in the future. The prognosis isn't great.
The only thing keeping Joshua in ICU is his vasospasms. The ICU attending physician is going to talk to the acute care ward to see if they are able/willing to treat them. If so, Joshua will be transferred there some time tomorrow. If not, he will be in ICU for a few days to a week more.
The doctors are hoping to begin weaning Josh from his trach tube this week. They are hoping to remove the tube completely within two weeks.
