The day did not begin well at Swedish. When Mary arrived at 7:30 in the morning, Josh was covered in feces. She asked some nurses to help her fix the problem, but they didn't come to help. So after about 10 minutes she went to the nurse's station and announced, "I am giving my son a shower. It violates your rules at this hospital, but I'm going to do it anyway. If you want to send a nurse to help me, you can do that." Then she walked back to the room and gave Josh a shower. A nurse did show up not too far into the process.

After the shower, Mary dressed Josh in regular street clothes. No more Seymour Hiney gowns!

Getting out of Swedish Hospital on time was a bit of a challenge since the doctor forgot to complete the paperwork before he left, but we got to Craig just before Josh's first class at 9:00. And it was FANTASTIC! I mean, most 7-year olds could out-perform him, but he did great!

When the OT saw Josh last, she asked him to draw a picture of a person. He drew a box. Here is what he drew this time:

She asked him if the drawing was complete. He said it was. She asked, "What about eyes, nose, and hair?" He shook his head. So it wasn't better than sliced bread, but it's progress.

And that's not the best part. This is:

Yep, some vision - slight as it may be - has returned to his right eye! He is still technically blind in that eye, but now we have hope that it might eventually recover somewhat. The OT is trying to get the ophthalmologist to meet with Josh on Wednesday.

The remainder of the day was relatively busy with various therapies and activities. This is why we want to be at Craig rather than Swedish -- Josh has many more opportunities to learn and progress. We saw some of our "old" friends, but some had gone home. And there are new faces too. Josh did well in his other therapies, staying mostly engaged and active. He's easily distracted, but today's therapies were probably the best he's performed since the accident.

  1. Wahoo! I'm so glad he's back at Craig! And yay for eyesight! Didn't see that coming (get it? GET IT?!).

  2. Man, Josh is working so hard. It looks exhausting to physically recover and also do therapy all day. What a man!!!

    1. PS - Way to go, Mary, on the shower! There's nothing better than having a mom on your side.

  4. I'm so glad he's got some eyesight back ... Watching that video, about the time she was doing the 3-finger thing, I got the impression Josh was thinking, "Dude, I can see your fingers and I've proven it already! Find a hobby and stop torturing me!" That OT/ST/PT whatever "therapy" is just newspeak for "Torture master." Maybe PT really means "Personal Torturist"
