Another relatively routine day at Craig today. Josh had four classes and an exercise period. He did pretty well with everything.
His first class was OT. Josh reported double vision for the first time, which the therapist confirmed through a test. This isn't good because it impacts Josh's overall vision, but it is a good sign because it means his right eye has strengthened to the point where it can detract from the vision in his good, left eye, giving him depth perception! The therapist exercised his right eye quite a bit. You can see in the 30-second video below that Josh often goes for the "doubled" object instead of the real one.
Next was 30 minutes of ST with a new therapist. She first performed a PTA test on Josh and verified that he is still struggling with post-traumatic amnesia. Like his eyesight, this is both bad and good. It's bad because it obviously hampers his ability to remember things, but it's good because it means there is still room for improvement once the fog clears. Then she focused mostly on identifying various vegetables and fruit.
After lunch (which Josh didn't eat much of), Josh went to PT for an hour. After PT, Josh spent 30 minutes on the stationary bike in the PT gym. He actually kept the bike going for most of the 30 minutes, which is good. As with our good friend Karl Williams, biking is what Josh chooses to do in his spare time.
Next was another 30-minute ST session. They worked on naming body parts.
ST was Josh's last class for the day, finishing at 3:00 pm. He came back to his room and immediately jumped back into bed. He played Fishdom on Mary's iPad for a while but eventually fell asleep.
We had to wake him at 6:00 for dinner, which he didn't eat much of either. After dinner, he turned on the TV and flipped through a number of channels. (His mental focus isn't good enough to really stick with one show.) He did pause for a bit on Southpark, a show he used to watch fairly religiously. Paul asked if he remembered the show and he said yes, but he soon bored and went back to playing Fishdom. This time we had him sit in his chair rather than lie in bed while he played. Here he is playing a color memory game (basically a Simon app).
In the video below, he is playing the same game last night. But his score is impressive!
He plays games pretty well, considering his mental condition. But he is so impulsive that he has a difficult time waiting to make choices or understanding the impact before clicking on options. If there's a button, he clicks on it.
Mary didn't sleep well again last night due to her cold; the coughing is getting worse, her throat still burns, and she still has no voice. She went back to the apartment at 1:45 to rest. Paul took her place at the hospital where he spent most of his time on the phone with various work colleagues. Mary returned at 3:30, and they spent the evening together trying to help and entertain Josh.

Here's to the King and Queen of Exhaustion!
